Queen of the South tells the powerful story of Teresa Mendoza, a woman who is forced to run and seek refuge in America after her drug-dealing boyfriend is unexpectedly murdered in Mexico. In the process, she teams up with an unlikely figure from her past to bring down the leader of the very drug trafficking ring that has her on the run.
I found "Queen of the South" (2016) to be very similar to "La Reina del Sur" (2011) with both portraying Teresa Mendoza's life story surrounded by corrupted cops, politicians, drug traffickers and dealers wrestling for power and control of Colombia's cocaine import business to Mexico and the United States but the story line and events ave very different. I enjoyed them both very much but am partial to the earlier version which is more colorful and authentic in my opinion even though it is in Spanish with subtitles. Both are currently available on Netflix.
I am also surprised at the number of good reviews.. it started out very well, and engaging and by episode five or so.. it started to get annoying. If camilla was ready for war with her husband why did she run out of goods and begin to panic.. she kept ordering goods without finding out who was tipping the DEA off. I couldn't watch past the unrealistic scenes, and the very foolish things they all kept doing. Its a well made telenovela ; unfortunately didn't realize it was a telenovela… If id known.. i wouldn't have bothered. As i said first couple episodes were riveting and then it all went pear shaped from episodes 3.
